North Carolina is among the highest producing states in the nation for cucurbits with squash and watermelon production each ranked eighth (21 million pounds of squash & 144 million pounds of watermelon), cantaloupe ranked seventh (20 million pounds), cucumber ranked fifth (149 million pounds of cukes), and pumpkins ranked fourth.
